That Lucky Old Sun Demos

EDIT: This was already posted over at Triff's blog, Triffids on the Beach. But, thanks to an anonymous commenter, we've now got the studio demos for That Lucky Old Sun here at this blog. too. I guarantee you'll love them. Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl and Midnight's Another Day were both already available on Brian Wilson's website. Be sure to catch Brian on tour this summer if he actually comes to a place near you. He's doing some shows in the UK. He's also doing the northeast United States and eastern Canada. And I also think he's doing some shows in L.A.

Get 'em here: EDIT: 5/6/08 12:50PM EDT-I've removed the link to the demos in order to avoid a C&D in case BriMel decides to go on a rampage. I'll repost the demos after all the hubbub dies down, might be a couple months...I'm only taking them down so the blog doesn't end up going down.

Remember to check out Triffids on the Beach.

Alex, are these files the same as the flac files posted on my blog ? (http://triffidsbeach.blogspot.com/2008/03/that-lucky-old-sun.html)
Regards. Triff

They probably are...someone anonymous just let a link on my last post and I decided to put it up, but thanks for pointing that out. I'll put up a shout out to your blog.

Those demos were not supposed to show up on blogs... I think it's kind of inappropriate, whether on triffs blog or here. Just my 2 cents.

Well, technically, live shows, the Paley Sessions, Sweet Insanity, Bamboo, SMiLE, Adult Child, Landlocked, the Unsurpassed Masters series, etc. weren't supposed to show up on blogs either, but they are somewhat ubiquitous now. They are NOT being sold, and when there is a legitimate release of TLOS I will go out and buy it and tell everyone else to go buy it. Appropriateness is relative...just because you think its inappropriate, I see it as a way of stimulating demand for a legitimate studio and/or live release that I think a lot of fans will go out and purchase. Are you saying I should take it down? Sorry if this irks you. I look forward to a friendly, mature dialog about this. That being said, I have NO CLUE WHATSOEVER as to who or what the source is, except that Triff also has it in flac. I also look forward to anyone else's comments on this. If there ends up being a consensus or an overwhelming majority thinking the demos should be taken down...down they will come. Gone from the blog if a good number of people think it should be removed.

Hi, I enjoyed listening to them, but I too wonder about whether they should be on blogs or not. I don't think they should have been leaked, but since they;re out there, why not? Someone made a mistake somewhere along the line and we are just taking advantage of it. Unfortunately, Brian isn't making money of them and he should. They are wonderful. He seriously should have put them up for download at his site.

I'll take 'em down if too much controversy gets sparked, but if not, I'm going by how people vote in the poll.

My take on it is that as long as NOBODY is making money on it, and it hasn't been officially released, go for it. Having this stuff online is so much cooler than in the past where sleazy fly-by-night bootlegers charged obscene amounts of money for LP's and/or CD's with this sort of material. Now the real fans get it, and nobody profits monetarily.

And really, the type of fan that would hunt this stuff down will absolutely buy every official release the day it comes out.

Just my personal two cents. Keep posting Alex.

Oh hey, Alex, I didn't want to start such a big discussion, believe me. This was just my opinion since TLOS hasn't been finished / released yet. I wouldn't have minded posting the songs AFTER the release.

So please don't take it personally ;) We're all just fans & should stick together.

I apologize if it appears if I took it personally..its impossible to tell how you actually mean to say something on the internet. I have no hard feelings toward any fellow fan whatsoever. If I had taken it personally, I would've deleted your comment. I was the one who provoked the discussion by putting up the poll on the site. I was never intending to split fans up into different "camps" or "cliques". I think having a discussion is good, though...bringing many different ideas to the table.

Like I said before, if there is a big outcry (i.e. tons of angry comments against posting this) against posting this, or if the "no" vote wins, the demos will be removed from the blog. Hell, if an official release date is announced for TLOS, I'll take the demos down.

Take care, Alex

Hi

First of all, i'm glad that i've heard this demo.... That it's possible to listen to new songs, and bootlegs, without searching the whole world, for at copy on cd.... After i've found these blogs, and made my own, i've heard so much music with BB, that i couldn't have known of, other that reading on sites, which bootlegs there is... But here we can download them....

I also think, that original releases should be bought in a store, and not on the net..... But the rare and other stuffs, is okay, if you ask me....

Thanks for posting the link...
